Haystack Landing – Summer Update

Dear Supporters,

I hope you and your family are enjoying the start of summer. Before you get too busy planning vacations and weekend barbeques, I wanted to take a few minutes of your time to update you on our Haystack Landing project.

As you may know, we have been working actively with County staff since the continuance of our last Board of Supervisors meeting back in July 2009. It’s hard to believe that it has been almost a whole year since our last public hearing. However, we have worked hard, as we have made major reductions to our proposal and are confident that we have found the right compromise that will finally provide southern Sonoma County with an asphalt resource. Our project team is optimistic that we have a plan to create an asphalt facility that will be remarkably sensitive to its surroundings and provide a vital asset to the community.

Our current proposal eliminates previous concerns about navigational safety on the Petaluma River and further reduces noise, emissions and visual impacts of Haystack Landing. Some of the major reductions to the original application include: (1) Elimination of the on-site crushing of recycled material; (2) Removal of the construction of a new barge offloading facility; (3) Reduction of the height of the silos from 76-feet to 62-feet; and (4) Reduction of peak production by 25%.

With the removal of the barge offloading operation, Haystack Landing will now purchase raw aggregate from the existing Landing Way facility at the property immediately to the North. We offer two alternatives for the transport of the material from Landing Way to Haystack Landing for the Board of Supervisors to consider – either by truck or by electric conveyor.

I would like to ask at this time to join us and show your support for the final vote at the Board of Supervisors, which is currently scheduled for the end of August. I will let you know the exact time and date of the hearing when it is confirmed. After much time, effort and hard work, we are pleased to have the final decision in sight.

I cannot thank you enough for your support and dedication to this project. We would not have gotten this close to approval without supporters like you.  Should you have any questions, please do not hesitate to contact me at adutra@dutragroup.com.

Sincerely,

aimi
