A River Runs Through It
We all enjoy the Petaluma River as a resource in our community, but did you know that it isn’t a river at all? It is actually a slough that would silt up and become wetlands if the “river” wasn’t dredged every four years.

One of the biggest public benefits the Dutra Haystack project offers the community is the tonnage of rock transported on the Petaluma River will help justify the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers spending $4 million dollars every 4 years on dredging the river. If the Army Corps of Engineers did not provide the funding, it is unlikely the City of Petaluma could fund the dredge and the “river” would in short time silt up and no longer be a navigable waterway.
Keeping the Petaluma River a river…just one more reason to support the Haystack Landing project.
